Deputies and medics searched the woods of Shawnee State Forest for an injured hiker after she called for help.
The call came in just before 8 p.m. when a woman said she rolled her ankles and was now stuck in the middle of the woods but didn’t know her location.
She said she’d hiked the park look, starting by the lake, and was about a mile and a half in on a trail with blue arrows.
Dispatch contacted ODNR, but they said their closest unit was in Vinton County, and they weren’t planning on responding.
Officers stayed on the phone with the woman and located her and her dog about 50 minutes later. However, it took ODNR and the rescue squad until almost 10 pm to locate the woman, since there was no radio service in the area.
She was not seriously injured and left the scene with her boyfriend.
