What some people may think of as a prank turned dangerous in Farley Square when a woman reported being struck in the chest by an object thrown from a passing vehicle.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. when the woman said a newer maroon SUV with male occupants drove by and someone hurled an unknown item at her. She wasn’t able to catch the license plate but told officers she would report back if she saw the vehicle again.
Why It’s Not Just a Prank
Items thrown from cars aren’t just annoying — they can be deadly. Objects tossed at speed become dangerous projectiles that can cause serious injuries, trigger accidents, or even be considered assault with a deadly weapon depending on what’s thrown.
National safety experts point out that cases of rocks, bottles, or even small trash tossed from moving vehicles have caused broken bones, concussions, and fatal crashes. Something as simple as a can or cup can become hazardous when launched at highway speeds.
The woman wasn’t seriously injured in this case, what happened in Farley Square is no joke. They urge anyone who witnesses such behavior to try to safely note a license plate number and call law enforcement immediately.
