Concerns are growing over the broken elevator that’s left residents trapped and anxious, prompting a sharp call to action from Scioto County Daily News (SCDN). The outlet criticized the ongoing delays and lack of urgency from those responsible, saying that the repeated line of “we ordered the part” isn’t an answer when people remain stuck without access to safe transport. The smaller elevator in the building—known as the “little elevator”—isn’t large enough to fit a stretcher, leaving serious questions about how someone in medical distress could even reach the hospital.
“When will those charged to protect the community remove their heads from their personal sand traps and take action?” the SCDN post asked. The commentary went further, questioning whether officials were “just waiting on a death,” adding that they “couldn’t even move a dead body with dignity from that place.”
The Scorn from SCDN came not long after, residents shared a hopeful update online: “Praise God! Otis is in the building and working on the elevator now as we speak! Thank you all for your love and prayers during this time.” However, the relief was short-lived. Follow-up comments revealed that technicians were “working on the little one,” but by the end of the day, another resident reported “no update” and noted that the technician had “been gone for hours.”
As of this report, there’s still no confirmation on when the main elevator will be back in service, or whether safety inspections have been completed.
This is a threat to health, safety, and dignity. You shouldn’t have to pray for an elevator to work. Yet, here we are—residents left waiting, officials offering excuses, and faith doing the heavy lifting while the machinery doesn’t.
