It was a wild ride down Gallia Street, as a string of strange encounters had police hopping between gas stations, convenience stores, and even a moving vehicle!
The madness kicked off just before dawn at 5 a.m., when employees at the Speedway reported a man loitering in the lot, trying to start fights with customers and the clerk. While the guy never stepped inside, his aggressive antics were enough to rattle staff. By the time officers arrived, the would-be brawler had vanished, but workers said they’d call back if he made a comeback performance.
Three hours later, the Dash Thru just down the block had its own drama. Staff said a man in a black hoodie and backpack made a mad dash with stolen goods, sprinting off toward the old Big Lots. Police took a report and are now on the lookout for the early morning swiper.
Things took a bizarre turn six miles away around 11:30 a.m., when drivers at Gallia and Webster spotted a woman trying to jump out of a moving car. Minutes later, she was seen standing in the road on Jenkins Street in Wheelersburg. Since that falls outside city limits, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office stepped in to handle the situation.
By 5:30 p.m., it was back to Speedway for Round Two, but this time the police came out on top. Officers swooped in and arrested Clarence Davis, 53, who had an open warrant for failing to appear in court last November. He was originally busted for speeding while driving on a suspended license and decided not to face the music—until Friday. He was booked into the Scioto County Jail for a little staycation behind bars.
Moral of the story? If you’re heading down Gallia Street, buckle up—it’s never a dull drive.
