George Raymond Walton, 86, of Wheelersburg, a longtime Portsmouth resident, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at The Courtyard at Wheelersburg. He was born on June 13, 1939, in Wellston, a son of the late Everett and Lucille Wetzel Walton.
Following his graduation from Wellston High School, George served in the Army for two years. He was a member of the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion and was active in prison ministry. George was a devout Christian and was always active in his church. Since his move to Wheelersburg, he had attended the First Church of Christ
On March 27, 1978, George married Naomi Jean Spearry Walton in Portsmouth. The couple had been married for 42 years at the time of her death on March 6, 2021.
George was the owner of G’s Roofing, Inc. of Portsmouth and was well-known for the good work he did in the community.
Surviving is his son, John M. (Suzi) Bloomfield of Chillicothe; two daughters, Karen (Ronnie) Lieberman of West Jefferson, NC, and Lucy Betts of Wellston; a sister, Jayne Arthur of Wellston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
George was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deidra Willis; two brothers, Dan and Bob Walton; and one grandson.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the Courtyard at Wheelersburg, as well as the nurses of Heartland Hospice, for the compassionate care George was given.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Sam Cook officiating and interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wellston. The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Guard will provide military rites.
The flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Walton’s service to our country.
