A grandpa came out swinging after he said his grown granddaughter and her wife were pressuring his mother for money. He called 9-1-1 just after 4:30 pm to say the pair had jumped him.
When officers arrived at the Chesapeake home, they spoke to everyone involved separately to try to get the real story. Let’s unravel this situation.
Grandpa said his granddaughter and her wife were in his mother’s room trying to get them to give her money, which she didn’t have because she was on a fixed income. He said he beat on the bedroom door and pushed his way in, and the younger women attacked him. That’s when he grabbed a hammer to defend himself.
When offices spoke to the great-grandma, she said her granddaughter told her that if she didn’t give her money, she would kill herself. Great-grandma said she had no money to give. The granddaughter then went into her room and shut the door. That’s when her son grabbed the hammer and got into it with the younger women.
The granddaughter said she asked her great-grandma for money because she wanted to go to the doctor due to feeling suicidal. When her grandpa intervened, she told him to mind his business, and that’s when he grabbed the hammer.
Deputies took photos of all involved and information for a report. Great-grandma said she did not want her son arrested and wanted the granddaughter and her wife to leave. However, officers explained she would have to evict them.
Deputies took Grandpa into custody for domestic violence, and medics transported the granddaughter to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
