A panicked call from a frightened grandson set off a dramatic police response in West Portsmouth, after he told his grandmother that a man with a gun had barricaded himself inside the house.

🚔 Deputies Rush In
Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived within minutes and immediately detained a male suspect, secured the home, and confiscated a firearm from the scene.
They also arranged to have a vehicle towed from the property as part of the investigation.
🔒 Arrest Made
Deputies arrested Caleb Day, charging him with:
- Aggravated menacing
- Using weapons while intoxicated
Day was taken to the Scioto County Jail, then appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a hearing was scheduled for December 15.
👮 A Dangerous Situation Quickly Contained
Thanks to the grandson’s terrified call — and deputies’ fast response — the situation was brought under control before the standoff could escalate any further.
