Harry Gale Smith, 77, of McDermott, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was born August 31, 1947 in Rarden, Ohio to the late Jesse and Rosella Jenkins Smith. Surviving are his sons, Jesse Benton Smith of McDermott, William Timothy Smith of Pond Creek, Harry Gayle Smith of Pond Creek and Martin Edwin (Tammie) Smith of Pond Creek; grandchildren, Kyla (Jason) Hissong, Brandy (Dacion) Crabtree, Brooke (Levi) Morgan, Harry Smith III, Ryan Smith, Jared Smith, Zachary Smith and Martin Smith II; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Nicholas, Eli, Lilly, Grayson and Lincoln; and brothers, Gary (Vicki) Smith of Utah and Dwayne (Karen) Smith of Rarden Creek. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Jessie, Joanne, Joyce, Shirley, Charles and Paul; and half siblings, Robie, Roma, Lula, Notley, Sharma, Velma, Jessie and Geraldine.
Harry was a 1965 graduate of Northwest High School, attended Otway Christian Union Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked at Detroit Empire Steel in New Boston and Detwiller’s in Lucasville. He loved animals especially his guineas, he worked with mules as working animals, he was a horse trader and loved to listen to Tom T. Hall music back in the day.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Mustard Cemetery in Rarden, Ohio with Pastor Brian Justice officiating.
