Here’s Frankie! Baby Elephant Named after Grandma at Columbus Zoo
Introducing the adorable newcomer to Columbus Zoo.
The zoo has named the nine-week-old Asian elephant Frankie.
Phoebe, a 33-year-old Asian elephant, gave birth to Frankie on June 16 at 8:48 pm. He appears to be a strong boy according to zoo officials. Shortly after his birth, he began nursing.
His name was given to him by a donor family who wishes to remain anonymous. Frankie was named in honor of the family’s mother Frances who passed away in November.
Frances’s family was pleased to name the elephant Frankie in honor of their mother as well as to care for elephants.
The Columbus Zoo offers visitors the chance to see Phoebe and Frankie every day between 10 am and 2 pm.
