An ordinary shift turned extraordinary when first responders broke down a locked door to rescue an elderly man who had been trapped and helpless for hours.
Deputies and EMS crews arrived after dispatchers received a call about a possible medical emergency. With no answer at the front or side doors, responders circled the home and that’s when they spotted a dresser overturned inside, with an older man pinned between it and his bed.
The man called out for help, but every door and window was locked tight. When a deputy’s kicks didn’t work, he grabbed a ram and forced the door open. EMS rushed inside, immediately administering first aid.
The victim, who told officers he had been trapped since about 8 p.m. the night before, was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Officials later confirmed the rescue took place along State Route 93 in Lawrence County. Neighbors praised the quick-thinking teamwork between deputies and EMS a life-saving reminder of the dedication first responders bring to every call.
