Portsmouth businesses and homeowners have been battling the growing problem of individuals setting up camp on both public and private property.
Just after 10 am, a Grant Street resident contacted Portsmouth Police to report that a couple living in a camp behind his home had climbed the fence onto his property.
Police detained the male when they learned he had an active warrant from NBPD. New Boston officers responded to the home and served the man with a summons. Officers advised the couple to move their belongings off the property.
Around 2 pm, officers responded to a report of a homeless man lying behind Alexandria House Apartments.
Just after 4 pm, a Findlay Street caller complained that an undressed man was digging through a dumpster and making a mess near the Salvation Army Family Store. Officers stood by while the man picked up the mess, got dressed, and left the property.
Just after 2 am, a caller reported a man lying on a bench in front of the Family Dollar on 11th Street. The man told police he was homeless and had nowhere to go. Police advised him of the location of nearby homeless shelters.
