Howard K. Sommers, 88, of South Shore, KY., went to be with his Lord Monday, October 27, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA., December 30, 1936, a son of the late John Frank and Dorothy May Arbour Sommers.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one infant sibling, May Sommers; one sister, Lynette Owens; three brothers, John Frank Sommers SR., Gilbert Clarence Sommers, and Charles Sommers; and one brother-in-law, Shelby Owens.
Howard was an Army National Guard Veteran; he retired from the state of Louisiana as an Assistant Regional Administrator and a long-time volunteer for Helping Hands, where he once served as Chairman of the Board.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Linette Holbrook Sommers; one son, Gordon Keith (Ina) Sommers of Moraga, CA; three sisters, Cordialia (Roy) Willis of Elizabethtown, KY., Carolina (David) Brown of Dallas, TX., and Suzanna (Ron) Franz of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Michael (Greta) Sommers of Denham Springs, LA; one brother-in-law, Timothy Phillips; two sisters-in-law, Marian Sommers and Judy Sommers; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; along with several other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with John Havir officiating. Burial will follow at MT Zion Cemetery in South Shore, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M.
