Howard Keith “Scotty” Scott, 76, of Rosemount, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born February 5, 1947, in Clarktown, a son of the late Julian Shirley and Ruth Naomi Snipes Scott.
Scotty retired after 44 years with N&S Railway Co. where he worked as a locomotive engineer. A 1965 Valley High School graduate, he joined the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. A huge OSU fan, Scotty enjoyed betting on the horses, dogs and playing cards. He was also an animal lover and was especially fond of his dog, Macy.
Scotty married Alberta “Bert” Lintz Gerald Scott on November 21, 1985, in Greenup, KY, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2012, after 26 years of marriage. The couple had greatly enjoyed bowling together in area leagues.
Surviving is his sister, Lorraine Scott of New Boston; special friend and neighbor, Sherry Spriggs of Rosemount; two stepsons, Matthew D. (Karen) Gerald of Bethel and James L. Gerald of Milford; two stepdaughters, Mary E. Phillips of Minford and Laura D. (David) Stroud of Eden Park; his sister-in-law, Soozan Scott of Trail Creek, IN; and nieces and nephews, Sherry Scott-Mauritzen, Clay Scott, Troy Pennington and Karrie Barnett and their families.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Julian S. “Buck” Scott Jr.; a stepdaughter, Karen S. Dixon; and a niece, Wendy Henderson.
Graveside services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday at Memorial Burial Park with Military Rites by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Guard. Friends may gather at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth at noon Monday for visitation. The procession will depart for the cemetery at 12:30 P.M.
