Employees at the South Point Sam’s Club say a 73-year-old co-worker turned an ordinary morning shift into something out of a horror movie when he showed them a hunting knife and made chilling comments about using it.
Around 4 a.m., workers say the man pulled up his vest to reveal a black-handled hunting knife in a black case. According to one witness, he looked at a co-worker and said, “You’re not protected anymore.” Later, while the two were cutting meat, he allegedly added, “Today you guys are going to find out. Look how sharp my knife is. It just slides through the meat. I bet it will cut through you guys.”
Shaken employees went straight to their supervisor, who sent the man home with pay and contacted authorities. Deputies responding to the complaint gathered multiple statements from staff, all describing the same unsettling behavior. One worker said the man admitted he was “carrying concealed today” and confirmed the bizarre remarks. Another recalled him brandishing the knife by pulling up his vest and repeating that his co-worker “wasn’t protected anymore.”
The man never removed the knife from its case, but employees say his words were more than enough to leave them rattled. “He just stood there looking at me,” one worker told deputies, “and I had to ask if he was threatening me.”
Management also reached out to corporate offices for the man’s information, though they were initially unable to provide it. Deputies noted that, as of now, Lawrence County Court records show no charges filed and no arrest. The matter remains under investigation.
