A concerned ex-wife with a spare key and permission from her ex-husband’s mom led to an unusual welfare check in Wheelersburg.
Just after 9 p.m., the woman contacted deputies asking to check on her ex, who wasn’t answering calls. She stated she had verbal permission from his mother in Pennsylvania to enter the home if necessary. Deputies from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department arrived just as she located a spare key and entered the property.
Turns out, the man had just overslept. He was fine and the situation was resolved with no action taken.
Why This Matters: Welfare checks can be life-saving—but also lead to misunderstandings. We previously reported on a welfare check that ended with police nearly breaking down a door.
What We’ve Learned: Sometimes a nap is just a nap. But next time, charge your phone.
