It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jackie M. Shaw, a beloved Portsmouth native, who departed this world on August 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 14, 1945, in Portsmouth, Ohio. Jackie was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle. He leaves behind his daughter Jacqueline Shaw of Portsmouth, one grandson, John Marion Shaw of Portsmouth, his sister Rosabell Robins of Hamilton, nephews and friends.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents: Harlan and Thelma (nee Vaughn) Shaw; and six brothers: Bill Combs, David Stout, Ed Shaw, Harlan “Hoss” Shaw, Gary Shaw, Mike Shaw; and one Thelma Lee Flagg.
Jackie was a proud Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam Era, embodying a spirit of dedication and resilience that touched everyone who knew him. He spent many years working in groundskeeping and as part of the garage crew for the City of Portsmouth, always wearing a smile and lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends alike.
An avid tinkerer, Jackie had a special passion for old cars, earning him the nickname “Chevy Man.” Whether he was turning wrenches or sharing stories from his childhood, he always found joy in restoring classic vehicles. Alongside his love for cars, he became known as “Pigeon Man,” a devoted collector of expensive pigeons who found beauty in every feathered friend he raised.
Above all, Jackie treasured the time spent with family, especially during the cherished Christmas dinners that brought laughter and love to the table. His warm spirit and caring nature created lasting memories for all who gathered around him.
Jackie’s service with military honors from American Legion James Dickey Post #23, will be at Friendship Cemetery on SR 52, Nile Township, on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM, all who knew Jackie are warmly invited to join in honoring his legacy.
