Jacqueline Marie McDermott, 81, of Friendship, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at her home. Jackie was born on May 3, 1944, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Thomas Edwin and Gracie Marie McCoy Suter.
Jackie married Roger Dean McDermott on December 18, 1965, in Friendship. At the time of Roger’s death on February 29, 2012, they had been married for 46 years.
First and foremost in Jackie’s life was her beloved family. She enjoyed having the family in her home, decorating for each holiday and using her creativity to make everyone welcome. She grew beautiful flowers, a lovely garden and took pictures of everyone. She has compiled dozens of wonderful scrapbooks for future generations. Jackie also served as a 4-H, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader when her children were young.
She was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church and the church’s Women’s Guild, and a member of the Slocum Garden Club. Jackie was a 1962 Portsmouth West High School graduate and worked as a bookkeeper for Pepsi, Borden’s Dairy, and McDermott Consulting.
Surviving are her children, Roger Seth (Erica) McDermott of Stout, and Dr. Barbara J. ‘Bobbie’ (Noemy) Nunez-McDermott; two siblings, Thomas E. (Lori) Suter of Wheelersburg, and Patty Gilmore of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren, Zak (Erica) Lafontaine, Sydney Marie McDermott and Rylee Shay McDermott; two great-grandchildren, Eva Marie Lafontaine and Ellie Claire Lafontaine; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Jackie was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine ‘Kate’ Kiser and Candace ‘Candy’ Etter.
A Celebration of Jacqueline’s Life will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Tom Williams and Pastor Brandon Gilmore officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the service hour on Thursday.
