Officers investigated a report of an assault at the Lawrence County Jail. A corrections officer at the facility notified deputies that an inmate had been taken to the hospital with a laceration on his head.
The inmate said that a bearded man with tattoos assaulted him, but he did not know the man’s name. Deputies responded to the jail and began interviewing inmates housed in the cell block where the assault happened.
All of the inmates asked for an attorney except for a man who admitted he hit the other inmate for being disrespectful. Officers checked the surveillance video and confirmed that the inmate went face-to-face with the victim and hit him, dropping him to the ground.
