James “Jim” Donald Timberlake, 91, of South Portsmouth, KY., passed away peacefully Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Ashland Community Hospice in Ashland, KY. He was born January 16, 1930, in Fullerton, KY., a son of the late James A. and Mary E. Smith Timberlake.
Jim was a member of the Sunshine United Methodist Church, retired from North American Refractories, a founding member of the Greenup War Memorial, and the Chairman of the board for the South Shore Volunteer Fire Department. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart Medal.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Janet Collier Timberlake who passed away in 2012; one son, Gregory Shay Timberlake; four sisters, Thelma Cooper, Darlene Ratliff, Alberta Felty, and Alma Kirk; one brother, Floyd Timberlake.
Left behind to cherish his memory are one son, Stan (Treca) Timberlake of Ashland, KY; one grandson, Travis (Laura) Timberlake; one granddaughter, Mindy Sunderland; three great-grandchildren, Jay Timberlake, Stella Timberlake, and Cooper Sunderland, along with many other family, friends and church family that will sadly miss him.
Funeral Services will be 2 P.M. Sunday, October 17, 2021, at the Sunshine United Methodist Church 16 Tygart’s Bend South Shore, KY 41175 with Pastor Ken Southgate officiating. Burial will follow at Siloam Cemetery in South Shore, KY. Visitation will be Sunday at the Church from 12 P.M. until the funeral hour. Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., is caring for arrangements.
