James “Jim” Tilden Ferguson, 78, of Otway, Ohio passed away Friday, March 28, 2025 at SOMC in Portsmouth. He was born May 12, 1946 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Richard and Mae Collier Ferguson. On November 14, 1974 he was united in marriage to Martha Wolfe Ferguson who survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Alisha Ferguson and Marty and Marcheta Ferguson; and three grandsons, Austin, Caden and Ethan.
Jim’s life was one full of stories. Upon finishing school he enlisted and proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. After serving he worked as pipe fitter with the Local 521 Union. Jim’s life took him and his family many places, but wherever they went they always found adventure and made lifelong memories. After retiring Jim preferred to spend most of his time back on the family farm. More than anything Jim loved his family and friends. While he played many roles in life none were more important to him than husband, father and papaw. You could always count on him for a tall tale, advice or a wise-cracking joke. You could hear his pride in how he talked about those he loved, and you could feel his love in every “be careful”. We will all deeply miss Jim and we will continue to celebrate his life.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2025 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Robert Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
