Jeffery Allen Stephens, 71, of Portsmouth, passed away surrounded by loved ones at the SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1954, in Portsmouth to the late Elmer David and Ruby Pauline Bond Stephens.
A graduate of Portsmouth West High School, Jeff retired as a carman after more than 40 years with CSX. He had also worked for several years as a Lab Tech at Scioto Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed doing work around the house and watching westerns on television. Before ill health precluded him from doing so, he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing golf.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy Sue Warner Stephens. The couple married on July 1, 1989, in Piketon. Also surviving is his daughter, Stacie Stephens of West Portsmouth; a brother, Bill (Karen) Stephens of McDermott; three grandchildren, Austin Stephens, Cameron Stephens, and Frankie Sexton; three great-grandchildren, Xavier Bush, Neveah Stephens, and Jason Stephens II; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Jeff was also preceded in death by his son, Jason Stephens, and four siblings: Rose Mullins, Charlotte Green, Laura Copas, and James Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Dennis Dawes, Minister, officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
