John J Prohaska, 84, of McDermott, Ohio passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. He was born July 9, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Charles and Anna Broz Prohaska.
Surviving are two nieces, Heidi Prohaska Morris of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Holly Ann Prohaska of Cincinnati; a great-nephew, Eric Lee Morris; his extended family, Michael and Christina Seaman, and daughter, Paige Seaman and son Zach Gahm and the Rachford family; and his special friend, Shirley Ball and her grandchildren, Danny and Becky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Charles (Wanda) Prohaska.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1966. Upon retiring from Cordage Paper in Cincinnati he settled in Otway, Ohio at the old Henley Apple Orchard and began farming.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, May 9, 2022 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
