John Louis Howard, 82, of Waverly, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born May 31, 1942 in Salyersville, Kentucky son of the late Alfred and Liza Jane Adkins Howard. On January 31, 1964 he was united in marriage to Cathy Russell Howard who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dorine (Ray) Carter of Waverly, John D. (Lori) Howard of Waverly, Anthony Howard of Waverly, Denise Howard of Cincinnati, and Tracy Howard of Waverly; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Howard of Piketon, Morgan Howard of Cincinnati, Alexandria (Connor) Maglecic of Cincinnati, Chainey Turner of Chester, Virginia, Jacob Howard of Chillicothe, Bailey Rhoads of Cincinnati, Trevor Howard of Kingston, Alli Howard of Charleston, South Carolina and Jesse Rece Carter of Waverly; and great grandchildren, Brody Howard, Adalie Howard, Prim Carnet, Ainsley Howard, Isla Maglecic, and Stella Doolittle. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.
John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and an avid hunter. A retired member of the Laborers’ Union, he was also a member of Morgan Fork United Baptist Church, a loyal UK basketball fan, and found great joy in gardening. His legacy of faith, hard work, and love will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home with Bro. Arvil Murray, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
