Joyce Adele Huffman, 64, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born April 1, 1958, in Portsmouth, to the late John Harding and Lucille Marilla Holt Newsome.
Joyce was a 1976 Portsmouth High School graduate and a longtime member of the former First United Methodist Church (now the Cornerstone United Methodist Church). She had worked for more than 10 years as a teacher’s aide, secretary, and cafeteria worker in the Portsmouth City Schools where she was also active with the PHS Football Mothers Club. Joyce had been a nurse’s aide at the former Southern Hills Hospital and had acted as a caregiver for several family members.
Surviving is her husband of 45 years, Lawrence “Larry” Alan Huffman. The couple married in Portsmouth on March 11, 1977.
Also surviving are her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” Alan Huffman, Jr. of Portsmouth and Robert “Bobby” John & Mandy Huffman of Winchester; brothers and sisters-in-law, John H. Newsome, Jr. and Ted W. & Tiffany Newsome of Portsmouth and Randal “Randy” Wayne & Becky Newsome of Greenfield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Romaine A. & Alan Pollchik of Chillicothe and Lola M. & Howard Newton of Rosemount; three grandchildren, Sabe Boehm, Drew and Dane Huffman; and many special nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Rachel Sue Newsome, and a sister and brother-in-law, Billie Jean and Charles “Butch” Pastorius.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Aaron Lore officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the service hour.
