Joyce Lene Sullens, 87, of Portsmouth, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in her home at Hill View. She was born on July 24, 1938, in Lewis County, KY, to the late Harmon and Olive Jordan Hacker.
A graduate of Lewis County High School, Joyce was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. She retired from SOMC, where she had worked as a registrar.
On December 31, 1976, Joyce married Walter Franklin Sullens in Minford. At the time of his death on January 12, 2001, the couple had been married for 24 years.
Surviving Joyce is her son, James Barton Veach of Port Huron, MI; two stepsons, Michael Sullens and Gary Sullens; three brothers, David and Dennis Hacker of Tollesboro, KY, and Dale Hacker of Gallatin, TN; four sisters, Pam Hacker of Portsmouth, Carol Hacker of New Boston, Delrita Gilliland of Lucasville, and Teresa Pierce of Kettering; one granddaughter, Adreanna Veach; and two great-grandsons, James and Jagger.
Joyce was also preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Sullens.
Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, in Greenlawn Cemetery with Craig Gilliland presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
