Thefts, Phantom Fires, and Wall-Rattling Madness Rock Portsmouth’s Most Chaotic Block!
What is going on over on Kendall Avenue? From flaming tire rims to wall-shaking hotel guests and late-night showdowns at Speedway, this Portsmouth neighborhood saw a full-on freakshow of incidents over the weekend.
🔑 Key Snatcher or Accuser?
Around 2 AM, a man called 911 from the Speedway at Gallia and Kendall, claiming a woman had stolen his car keys and was accusing him of theft.
Police found the woman on Edgewood Drive, read her her rights, and searched her car. Speedway security footage may shed more light on this he said/she said car caper.
🎶 Hotel or Nightclub?
Just down the street at the Royal Inn, another 911 call came in the same time. A guest cranked the tunes so loud the walls were shaking. Officers paid a visit and told the amateur DJ to turn it down before the whole motel turned into a rave.
🔥 Tire Trouble or Inferno?
At 9:30 PM, a car was reported on fire behind the fire station (yes, really). Firefighters rushed to the scene only to discover… a burning tire rim. Crisis averted, but bonus points for irony.
🤬 Speedway Showdowns
Speedway took a beating this weekend.
- At 5 AM Friday, a man showed up, argued with staff, and stormed out before police arrived.
- At 4 AM Saturday, another man reportedly threatened employees. He was barred from the property but refused to sign the trespass notice like it was a bad lease agreement.
🪟 Backdoor Break-In?
Over on the 1900 block of Kendall, a resident told police she was nearly pushed out of her own apartment! She said someone forced the door shut on her, then escaped out the window. Nothing was stolen—but the weirdness was off the charts.
🚶♀️ Woman in the Roadway
At 11 PM Sunday, the Ohio State Patrol found a woman standing in the middle of Gallia and Kendall. Portsmouth PD and a drug crisis team stepped in and transported her to a rehab facility.
