Kristy Wilkin was recently appointed as the Ohio 4th district court of appeals judge by Governor Mike DeWine and is currently campaigning to maintain the position in the November election. I recently had the opportunity to speak with her regarding her position and campaign.
The 4th district of Ohio covers 14 counties including Scioto, Ross, Athens, and many more. Wilkin was born in Highland County and spent many years practicing law both there and in Clinton County prior to her appointment as a judge.
Despite the fact that Judge Wilkin was officially appointed to the position only a few weeks ago, taking over for Judge Matthew McFarland after his appointment to U.S. District Court, she still has to run for the position in November and she described some of the difficulty of running a campaign in the middle of a pandemic.
“It’s hard to get out and meet people when there are no events.” Wilkin has been attempting to compensate for this difficulty with online interactions and personal interactions to help spread knowledge of her campaign.
When asked to describe her campaign in one word, Mrs. Wilkin stated that she would summarize it as a justice. She considers herself a Constitutionalist and plans on following the law exactly as it is written to provide justice for all of the people within her district.
Even though the election for a judge is nonpartisan, and doesn’t involve specific political parties, Wilkin mostly has conservative beliefs and plans on running her campaign with those beliefs in mind.
