Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a Liberty Avenue home after a baffled resident reported a woman who simply refused to leave his back porch.
According to dispatch, the homeowner stayed on the line — and yes, the lines are recorded — while the woman could be heard in the background talking to him, asking him to text her boss, and generally making herself far too comfortable for someone who does not live there.
The caller told dispatch he was doing his best to keep her calm until officers arrived, but she continued to ignore repeated requests to leave the property.
When officers arrived, the situation went from strange to solved. They took the woman — identified as Emily Kilgore — into custody. She was charged with persistent disorderly conduct, the kind of charge reserved for people who not only make a scene once but really commit to the bit.
Kilgore appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where she pleaded no contest. The judge sentenced her to probation and 30 days in jail, with 29 of those days suspended, meaning she’ll avoid most of the time behind bars if she stays out of trouble.
🏡 Reminder: Porches Are Not Public Housing
If someone refuses to leave your property:
- Call 911 immediately. Don’t engage beyond ensuring your safety.
- Stay inside if possible. Avoid confrontation.
- Let officers handle it. Trespassing and disorderly conduct can escalate quickly.
