Police are on the hunt for a fugitive after a Lawrence County man was gunned down and killed in his driveway.
Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting Thursday afternoon on CR 7D in Ironton.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found 48-year-old Anthony W. Pemberton of Kitts Hill on the ground in the driveway. First responders from Lawrence County EMS were treating the unresponsive man. An ambulance transported him to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton where he was declared dead.
According to witnesses, Aaron Scott, 35, of Ashland, arrived at the home and began to argue with the victim. When an altercation broke out, Scott pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. Scott then fled the scene in a black Nissan Altima.
The Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office issued a murder warrant for Scott’s arrest. Investigators from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office headed to Boyd County Kentucky and teamed up with deputies to go to Scott’s home in Ashland.
Officers located the black Nissan and impounded it to process for evidence. Scott was nowhere to be found. Authorities began an extensive search for Scott.
