Lee Roy Gillenwater, 70, of Beaver, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 8, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Roy was born August 6, 1953, to the late Claude and Betty Gillenwater.
Roy is survived by his brothers Robert (Kay) Gillenwater of Beaver, Louie (Ruth) Gillenwater of Beaver, and Jim Engle of Beaver. He is also survived by nephews Mark (Stephanie) Gillenwater of Chillicothe, Todd (Jessica) Gillenwater of Beaver, and a niece Sherry (Bobby) Hammerstein of Beaver. He is also survived by two aunts, several cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as many friends.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Engle, and nephews Chris Gillenwater and Paul Gillenwater.
Roy enjoyed tinkering on old cars throughout his life. He enjoyed reminiscing with Squeak Nickels about his 1969 Roadrunner and other old cars. He enjoyed spending time with friends, and playing Phase 10 and 500 Rummy with his brother, Louie, sister-in-law, Ruth, Georgie Barnette and Shirlene Helton. Also, he loved being around his great nieces, Shyann and Savannah, and his great nephew, Brandon. Roy enjoyed his many conversations with his Aunt Sue Stephenson and his cousin Donna Jones.
Roy accepted God into his life several years ago. He enjoyed his nightly prayers with his brother, and would call him to pray over the phone if he was unable to come down and pray with him in person.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Preacher Henry Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Chapel Cemetery in Waverly, Ohio. Family will receive friends at the Botkin Hornback Funeral home in Waverly on Friday, January 12, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and one hour before the services on Saturday.
