A mattress crashed through the windshield of a car on Gallia Street, thieves stole a bumper off a parked vehicle, and a neighbor accused a man of poisoning her dog. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Parking Crackdown
- Police kept up their parking crackdown in Wayne Hills. At 7:16 am, they cited a vehicle for parking in a handicapped space at 1918 Kendall. Officers also noted that the plates expired in February of 2020. They arranged for the vehicle to be towed.
- At 7:36 am, they marked vehicles for violations on 5th Street.
- The manager of Kroger requested that police tow a white van that’s been parked near their fuel center for several weeks. Officers arranged for the tow at 11:39 am.
- Officers towed a vehicle for blocking a hydrant just before 6 pm.
- Police towed another vehicle for blocking a hydrant on Kendall Avenue at 9:10 pm.
Under The Influence
- An officer responded to a report of a drunk driver at 5th and Marshall at 7:37 am. Two men who got into a vehicle appeared to be so intoxicated they couldn’t walk. Police said they would keep an eye out for the vehicle.
- Police spotted a reckless driver on Coles Blvd at 11:53 am. They arrested the driver for OVI and arranged to have the vehicle towed. Police dropped her passenger off at SOMC. Then later arranged for a taxi to take the driver and her passenger back to Manchester, Ohio.
Parts Stolen Off Car
Catalytic converters aren’t the only parts thieves steal off cars. AT 7:50 am, a Grant Street caller reported a fender flare pried off their vehicle. The crook did approximately $500 worth of damage to the vehicle.
Kendall Avenue Confidential
- Officers responded to the Royal Inn for a report of a man and woman fighting. The caller said the fighting had been going on for a few days. The woman left and headed in the direction of Speedway. No one answered the door to the room when police knocked. An officer attempted to locate her at the Speedway, but couldn’t find her.
- Just before 10 pm, a juvenile called the police and reported an assault by her mother. Both parties admitted they shoed each other. The father of the child agreed to leave with the kid and the mother said she would go out for the night.
Porch Pirate
A Spring Street caller reported a package stolen from their porch at 7:30 am. The resident said they had security footage of the theft. Police took information for a report.
He called the police again at 1:16 pm to say he thought he knew where his items were.
Police headed to the address, read a woman her rights, and retrieved the items. They released the evidence to the victim.
Driver Injured By Flying Mattress
Just before 11 am, a mattress flew off a truck on Gallia Street and crashed through the windshield of a vehicle.
An ambulance transported the driver to SOMC. Police issued a ticket to the truck driver for having an unsecured load.
Suspicious Activity
At 11:17 am, a caller reported two men in dark clothing passing something back and forth near the dumpster for the Family Dollar on Gallia. Police were unable to locate them.
A caller reported a man panhandling money on Gallia Street at 11:18 am. The man moved between Taco Bell, McDonald’s, and Wendy’s.
Dog Fight
A High Street resident contacted police at 4:14 pm about issues with a neighbor. He said he’s in an ongoing disagreement with her over her dog. Someone poisoned the dog and now the woman blames him.
He said she’d threatened him. Police took information for a report.
