Portsmouth Police arrested a man for domestic violence after an alleged assault on Ritchie Street.
A woman called officers at 5:49 am to report that a man struck her and took off. Police said she seemed erratic on the phone and was unable to give much information about the incident.
Three units responded to the incident and caught up with the man about half an hour later. Officers took him into custody on a charge of domestic violence. He was released on his own recognizance.
However, the arrest appeared to cause problems at the home shared by the victim and suspect. The woman contacted police at 11 am to say that her landlord had argued with her over the incident at the home.
Police advised both parties that they needed to make other living arrangements as it was obvious the current situation was not working. The officer said the woman didn’t seem particularly interested in listening to the advice.
