Officers arrested a man for beating his mother and a caller reported a gun at Alexandria House. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Officer Helps Man Who Claims Someone is After Him
Just after 1 am, a man approached a Wendy’s employee in the back of the store to say he was being chased.
An officer gave the man a ride to someone’s house.
Gun Reported at Alexandria House
A man called officers and said he was afraid of people outside the Alexandria House apartments with guns. He had difficulty answering the dispatcher’s questions. Dispatch tried to get an apartment number from the person, but they kept hanging up.
Officers spoke to multiple people at the apartment building just before 3 am. No one reported calling the police or seeing anything suspicious.
Stranger at My Door
A Sunrise Avenue caller contacted officers at 9 am to report a strange man had knocked on her door and said someone was trying to rob him. She said he was waiting outside the home.
Officers spoke to the man and then went to another address, where they took a man into custody on an open warrant.
Suspicious Activity
A troubled woman, with whom police have daily contact, was the subject of a complaint just before 11 am. A witness said the woman was barefoot, pushing a grocery cart, and trying to get into cars. An officer spoke to the woman. She said she’d just left a friend’s home. The officer advised her of the complaint.
At 12:34 pm, a caller reported a man walking in the middle of 8th Street. They said the man was talking to himself and had stopped traffic. The man then went into Frank N Steins. Police spoke to the man and arranged for a taxi to pick him up.
Under the Influence
Officers responded to a report of a shirtless man sitting on the railing between Speedway and Little Caesar’s. He appeared to be overdosing. Police said the mentally ill man had just been released from jail and was digging in a dumpster.
Kid Climbs Out Window
Just before 2 pm, a Thomas Avenue father contacted officers to report their child climbed out the window of their apartment and took off.
Police took information for a report.
Man Busted For Beating Mom
An elderly woman contacted officers at 2:15 pm to report her son had beaten her at her home. Officers went to the address and took a 57-year-old man into custody.
Due to a medical issue, they transported him to SOMC. He was released shortly after 9 pm. Officers took him to the police station and charged him with domestic violence before taking him to the Scioto County Jail.
Portsmouth Municipal Court released him on his own recognizance.
