Neighbors said the yelling had been going on long before anyone dialed 911. By the time officers reached the apartment building, a man was already pleading to be taken to jail.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, multiple agencies responded after a caller reported what sounded like a heated domestic situation. When officers arrived, they found a man outside the apartment, already being handcuffed by a trooper.
Deputies say the man immediately began shouting for officers to “take him to jail” and repeatedly warned that he was going to “spazz out” if they didn’t put him in cuffs. As deputies backed up to speak with witnesses, they reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from him.
Inside the apartment, residents told officers there had been no physical violence — only loud arguing fueled by drinking. Neighbors in the adjoining apartment said they could hear the man screaming and banging on things through the wall and were worried for the safety of everyone inside, including a child.
When officers returned to the patrol car to speak with the man, they informed him he was being arrested for Disorderly Conduct based on his behavior, screaming, and refusal to calm down.
Troopers reported that before deputies arrived, the man had approached one of them with raised hands, shouting, crying, and making jerking, rigid movements. He also reportedly told officers he had recently lost his mother and insisted he needed to go to jail.
He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.
No injuries were reported, and no additional charges were filed.
