Officers investigating a wrecked truck weren’t buying the man’s claims of how the accident happened. The incident started when deputies were investigating a domestic call involving a wrecked truck near Proctorville.
Officers found the truck wrecked near the home and went to the residence to see what was happening. They encountered Tracy Dement, who had contusions on his face consistent with being hit with an airbag.
Dement told them he was at the Speedway in Huntington when two men held him at gunpoint and forced him to drive to Proctorville. The deputy thought the man seemed intoxicated.
Officers learned there was already a felony warrant out of the man, so they placed him in custody and waited for EMS to check him out. Once he was medically cleared, an officer took him to the jail where they discovered Suboxone strips in his pockets. Dement was unable to produce a current prescription for the drug.
His wife told officers he’d been coming home “f***ed up” for the past week or so, and she was tired of it. When a trooper came to speak to Dement about the crash, he claimed he was carjacked at Walmart or Kroger in Huntington and forced to drive to Proctorville. According to Dement, the men beat him with a pistol and lead pipe, threw him out of the truck and left him by the side of the road. Officers had concerns about the inconsistencies in the story.
Deputies booked him in the Lawrence County Jail on his outstanding warrant.
