A frightening report of a possible armed threat sent Scioto County deputies to Friendship around 5 p.m. after a father told 911 his son had been threatened by a stranger while in a field near their home.
According to deputies, the father said his son frequently goes into the field and had never seen the man before. The teen told officers the stranger was holding what appeared to be a black .22-style rifle and gave him “two seconds” to leave the area. The boy also claimed the man made an alarming statement, saying he had fled Columbus after killing two people there.

The caller sounded highly excited during the 911 call, but the situation had calmed significantly by the time deputies arrived on scene.
Despite the seriousness of the allegation, the caller declined to file charges or complete a formal report. Deputies nonetheless searched the area due to the potential risk to public safety.
Officers later made contact with the man described by the teen. Deputies reported he did not have a weapon and denied making any threats.
No arrests were made. The incident was documented as deputies worked to sort through the conflicting accounts of what happened.
