A man came home on a 12-hour pass from rehab to discover that an acquaintance had ripped him off. He knew exactly who’d taken $3200 worth of vinyl fencing and parts from his home because the guy left a note with $50 saying he’d be back to pay later.
He said the man also tried to buy a car from him in March, but the dude made him feel uncomfortable. The man had been in a court-ordered rehab program and came home on a pass to find the note and the missing fencing. He said he was furious but due back in rehab within hours, so he didn’t file the police report until he completed treatment.
When officers spoke to the man who took the fence, he admitted he took it and left the note and cash. However, he told him the man had sold him a gate for $150, and he’d already paid him $100 before he left for rehab. The man said he collected the gate and left $50. He said when his friend got out of rehab, he called him and accused him of breaking into his house and stealing the fencing.
Deputies took information for a report.
