A Franklin Furnace man faces serious charges in the death of his mother. The Scioto County Grand Jury returned indictments against 58-year-old Michael Vansickle for involuntary manslaughter and two counts of Failing to Provide for a Functionally Impaired Person.
Last month, personnel at SOMC contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to report their concerns about a patient brought in for treatment. Medics feared the 79-year-old woman was a victim of elder abuse.
When detectives responded to the hospital, they found injuries consistent with abuse, which they photographed. The hospital transferred the victim, 79-year-old, Patricia Vansickle, of Franklin Furnace to hospice care.
Detectives arrested her son, Matthew Vansickle for failure to provide care for a functionally impaired adult.
The victim passed away from her injuries and detectives upgraded Vansickle’s charge to involuntary manslaughter.
