Witnesses reported a suspicious man jumping into traffic in Chesapeake just after 2:30 pm. Officers managed to track him down near a car wash a few minutes later.
He told them he had tried to get in front of vehicles so they would hit him, and he would “gain his halo and wings.”
Deputies sent for an ambulance, and EMTs determined he was a danger to himself. However, the man became aggressive when they told him he was going to a hospital and refused to go.
A deputy placed him under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported him to the Lawrence County Jail.
