A Lucasville man is behind bars after the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office said he intentionally mowed down a man in Portsmouth. Law enforcement claimed it was all for love.
According to the Scioto County Sheriff, it all started on Sunday around 4 pm. A call came into 9-1-1 saying that someone had been run over by a car.
Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the 300 block of Furnace Creek Road in Portsmouth.
Love Triangle
During the course of the investigation, officers determined that this was no accident. The victim was run over on purpose. Further investigation by a detective revealed that love was at the core of this incident. After interviewing witnesses, detectives discovered an ongoing love triangle involving a husband and a boyfriend.
The victim was Mickey Ward, 42, of Portsmouth. The driver was William M. Akers, 59, of Blue Run Road in Lucasville. Officers did not specify who was the husband and who was the boyfriend.
The Arrest
According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Akers left the scene of the accident. Officers had several leads on where he might have gone and made multiple attempts to locate him. Once they found the guy, troopers and deputies were able to arrest him without a problem.
His victim, Mickey Ward, was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital via air ambulance. Ward is listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
The Charges
William Akers is charged with:
- 1 count of felonious assault
- 1 count of leaving the scene of an accident.
He’s currently behind bars in the Scioto County Jail on a $32,500 bond.
