A man contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 10:30 pm to report he’d been targeted by a blackmailer.
The crook had harassed him via the phone and social media. The blackmailer, whom he said had a foreign accent, claimed to have inappropriate photos of the victim.
He’d already paid the crook $200, but the man was still demanding more money.
Deputies advised him to contact the FBI.
*Reporters Note: blackmail scams like this are common. Criminals will often claim to have damaging information or photographs of an individual or their family members in order to extort money. These crooks often are very aggressive and can badger people into transferring thousands of dollars to them.
