Gunfire shattered the quiet hours early when a man was shot in the leg in the 1300 block of Mound Street just before 2 a.m. Portsmouth Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting.
Five squad cars responded to the home as officers made their way inside and discovered the wounded man. EMS was immediately called, and the victim was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) for treatment. Officers followed the squad to the hospital to begin gathering information for an official report.
But the night was far from over.
Second Assault Call at 3 A.M.
Just an hour later, police were back in action—this time at King’s Daughters Medical Center, where they met with another assault victim. The individual was able to positively identify a suspect, prompting officers to begin tracking down the person of interest.
However, when police attempted to follow up at a potential location, no one answered the door, and the suspect remained unaccounted for as of the time of this report.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have not released the identities of either victim or the suspect, and the connection between the two incidents—if any—remains unclear. No arrests have been made at this time.
Residents in the area are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and to contact police with tips as the investigation continues.
