A man takes a leak in an apartment lobby, and a homeowner discovers someone changed the locks on his new house and ran up a $1000 water bill. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Wanted Man Found in Condemned House
A Campbell Avenue caller reported two men in the back of a condemned house just before 4 pm. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man with open warrants through the Portsmouth Police Department and Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
William Berry was wanted for robbery, failure to appear, and a parole violation. This was Berry’s fifth arrest in less than a year. Recent charges against the parolee include theft, robbery, falsification, and parole violation.
Grand Theft Auto
At 4:07 pm, officers received a report about a 1995 Chevy Truck stolen from the Adelphia Impound Lot. Police took information for a report.
Man Takes Leak In Apartment Lobby
Officers responded to the 16th Street Apartments when a woman asked to speak with an officer about an issue involving her boyfriend.
She said the man urinated in the lobby, and the apartment complex planned to cite her with a violation because of the incident.
The woman decided she didn’t need to speak to an officer and would just accept the violation.
Officers Investigate $1,000 Water Bill
A man who had just purchased a home on Willow Way contacted officers at 5 pm to report some unusual activity involving the water bill. He received an $1100 water bill for the vacant home.
When he went to the home to search for a leak, he discovered someone had changed the locks, and the keys he received at closing no longer fit the door.
The previous owner was deceased, but his estranged wife had claimed she still had property there. The wife showed up while an officer was there and let the officer inside.
Police didn’t see signs of a leak. The woman collected her property and turned her keys over to the new homeowner.
Child Porn Charges Reported
A woman contacted officers to report someone managed to hack both her phone and her bank and she was hit with charges for child pornography. (Note* Officers did not mention this in the police report, but a message claiming your bank account has been billed for child porn charges is a common phone scam used to scare people into turning over their information.)
