Ohio State Troopers were forced to open fire on a 36-year-old Piketon man who led them on a wild police chase on Thursday morning.
Around 11 am, a trooper spotted Dakota Lansing driving recklessly at a Jackson, Ohio gas station. When the trooper tried to pull him over, Lansing took off. Officers gave chase and Lansing ended up speeding in the wrong direction down Rt. 32 to avoid them.
Officers intentionally crashed into him to stop him and deployed stop sticks in an attempt to deflate his tires, but he kept going, ending up on Smokey Hollow Road and then going off-road. After Lansing hit a patrol car, troopers fired shots at him.
He then headed to a nearby home and ran inside. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office contacted the prosecutor’s office and got a search warrant while the Ohio State Patrol and the Piketon Fire Department deployed drones to watch the house.

Members of the Southern Ohio Major Crimes Task Force raided the home and took Lansing into custody. Police charged Lansing with felony fleeing and eluding, felonious assault, and for a parole violation. Lansing is on parole for an aggravated robbery charge.
