A man wanted his boyfriend committed for cussing (he used the Lord’s name in vain), a caller worried about a dangerously thin disabled man, and the police answered several calls involving overdoses. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Suspicious Activity

  • Just after midnight, a Sunrise Avenue caller reported someone threw a rock through his window. Police took information for a report.
  • A caller notified police that the back door and window were open at a Wayne Avenue apartment. The tenant is currently incarcerated and no one should be inside. Police contacted PMHA and requested they resecure the door.
  • Police answered a call to Kroger for a report of a man attempting to take pictures of a kid in the store. Officers took information for a report.

Under The Influence

  • At 1:40 am, a caller reported a man overdosing at the Four Keys Inn. By the time police arrived, the person was gone
  • At 2:42 am, police receive3d a report of a man passed out next to his vehicle in the Municipal Parking Lot on 4th Street. A sober friend picked the guy up.
  • Officers checked out a vehicle at the Speedway at 12:24 am, after the OSP but out a BOLO on the vehicle. Police saw no indication the driver was under the influence.
  • At 1:48 pm, police responded to the Woodbine Apartments for a report of an overdose. The caller said the man had turned blue. The patient refused medical attention.
  • About 5 minutes later there was another overdose report to 7th Street.  Dispatch sent an ambulance.
  • A man overdosed in a bathroom at the Shawnee Apartments at 2:24 pm. He also refused medical treatment.
  • At 7 pm, a man called officers to a Kendall and 17th. He said his friend was high and out of his mind and he had attempted to get him into a car with no luck. Police told the man he must stay off the street and could go with his friend or to jail. He chose to go with the friend who wanted to take him to a rehab center.

Disturbing the Peace

Officers once again answered a call to a 5th Street residence for a report of college students partying loudly. Police took one man into custody and said they could contact SSU to report the many disturbances at the address.

Suspect Threatens To Shoot Up Hospital

Just before 4 am, an employee of SOMC reported a person threatened to shoot up the hospital. The hospital provided the address of the possible suspect to the police. Officers took information for a report.

Asleep at the Wheel

  • Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Alexandria Park at 3:31 am. Turned out someone was just asleep in the car.
  • Just after 7 am, police answered another suspicious vehicle report in Tracy Park. The driver slept there overnight in their vehicle rather than drive home.

Man Wants Boyfriend Committed For Cussing

Officers responded to an argument over taking the Lord’s name in vain just before 9 am on 17th Street. Police said a man complained his partner was saying “God damned” repeatedly. He wanted to send the cursing man to the hospital.

Officers said the other half of the pair seemed to be in sound mind and did not require any type of medical or mental evaluation. Police advised the man not to call the police for disagreements over cursing.

Welfare Check

Police responded to a request for a welfare check on a 21-year-old developmentally disabled man at 10 am. A caller saw the man out with his father and thought he looked too thin as if he had not been eating.

Police said the young man was indeed thin but seemed in good spirits. The man’s parents said authorities had been called before by the same person and that there’d been an investigation. They said their doctor can testify that he just happens to have a very high metabolism.

No Place To Go?

Police responded to Spartan Stadium at 1 pm for a report of a pregnant teen who said her grandmother kicked her out and she had no place to go.

The grandmother said the teen has a mental disability and the allegations were simply not true. She claimed the girl was supposed to be at a friend’s house.

Police reported the situation to CPS who said they would follow up.

Move Along

Police received a request from a Gallia Street business to keep panhandlers away from the property. Officer advised the man to stay away.

Family Feud

A brother and sister whose fight frequently brings out the police were at it again at 2:19 pm. Officers responded to the Woodbine Apartments and calmed down the situation.

However, they were at it again at 4 pm. The sister went to a neighbor’s to cool down and the brother said she was in a bad mood because she hadn’t gotten high yet that day.

Police were back at the home at 9:49 pm for more arguing. They offered to send for an ambulance but the pair refused.
