A large group of people chased a man along Mound Street just before 8 pm, prompting residents to flood the sidewalks.
The crowd was shouting something about messing with a child, according to witnesses.
The man being chased called the police to say that someone in the group had a gun.
A group of five PPD officers arrived quickly at the corner of Grant and Mound and blocked the crowd.
Two people were detained and an investigation began to figure out if a gun was involved.
The firearm was then suspected to be in the possession of a juvenile. As police were searching for the male, they noticed him standing in the yard of a nearby neighbor. They knew his name and began an intense foot pursuit. At first, the young male went up the steps to potentially barricade himself in the home of an elderly neighbor.
He quickly changed his mind, lept from the porch, and ran through the yard with 2 police officers in close pursuit. He ran across the field, behind Sunset Bowling Alley, and into the Woodbine Apartment complex where he was apprehended.
The police report indicates that they took him to the station for questioning.
The investigation continues as police review video footage of the incident captured by neighbors.
