Mary Ellen Shaw, age 93, of Stout, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center, with her family by her bedside. Born on November 6, 1931, in Ashland, KY, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Lillian Ream Lewis.
Mary was a long-time member of the Friendship United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Shaw, whom she was married to for 60 years; two brothers, Walter Lewis and Lawrence Lewis and two sons-in-law, Frank Yerardi and Steve Hazelbaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Hazelbaker and Nancy (Jack Anderson) Yerardi; her grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Hazelbaker, Jill (Mark) Kelly, Chris (Tanya) Yerardi and Brian (Mandie) Yerardi; great-grandchildren, Ella Hazelbaker, Clara Hazelbaker, Libby Kelly, Warren Kelly, Hayden Yerardi, Mallory Yerardi and Jacob (Katlyn) Nunley; a great-great granddaughter, Scarlett Nunley and many nieces and nephews.
She held a special place in her heart for the friendships and regular visits from Mike and Pam Kelly and George Graham. Her laughter always lit up the room and hallways at Lakeside in Hillview. On behalf of the family, many thanks to her caregivers on the floor as well; your kindness and thoughtfulness meant so much to Mom and our family. A special thank you as well to the staff at SOMC ICU for their compassion and heartfelt commitment during this difficult time.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1st, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Tom Williams officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
At the family’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church and SOMC Hospice.
