Just after midnight, a chilling 911 call came into Portsmouth dispatch. A woman requested a medic—but then, someone in the background told her to hang up. When dispatch called back, no one answered.
🚓 Concerned something serious had happened, officers rushed to the area of Eck Court and Edgewood Drive. But when they arrived, they found something straight out of a horror movie:
- 🏚️ A condemned house
- 🐕🦺 Three large, aggressive dogs guarding the property
- ❓ And no sign of anyone in distress
The dogs were so aggressive that officers couldn’t even approach the home safely. A search of the area turned up nothing — leaving officers with more questions than answers.
🧠 What to Do If You Hear Someone Hang Up on 911:
- 📞 Always let the call go through. Don’t hang up — even if someone tells you to.
- 📍 Stay on the line. Dispatch can send help faster with more info.
- 🚪 Make your location clear. Especially if you’re in a place that’s hard to access.
- 🐶 Contain aggressive animals. Emergency responders can’t help if they can’t get to you.
- 🗣️ If you’re in danger, speak in code. Even whispering helps dispatch understand what’s happening.
Kudos to Portsmouth PD for responding quickly and putting themselves in a potentially dangerous situation — even when the call went silent. Because sometimes, the scariest part of the job… is what you don’t find.
