A Portsmouth family made a disturbing discovery while cleaning out a garage—finding their missing dog dead with a rope tied around its neck nearly two years after it disappeared.
The dog had originally gone missing, and at the time, the owner believed it had simply run away.
But this discovery has raised new concerns.
According to the report, the owner told police he now suspects his brother may have been involved. He said that around the time the dog went missing, he received a text from a third party claiming the brother had admitted to killing the dog.
Still, proving that is another matter entirely.
Investigators noted there is no direct evidence tying anyone to the dog’s death—only a secondhand message. And with the incident believed to have happened roughly two years ago, any potential physical evidence may be long gone.
Cases like this can be difficult to prosecute. Without firsthand witnesses or solid physical proof, authorities often have little to build on. Over time, memories fade, details become harder to verify, and witnesses can be difficult to track down.
For now, what started as a simple cleanup has left behind more questions than answers—and a case that may be hard to move forward.
