Missing Endangered Runaway Teens Found at Dollar General
Two runaway teens caused quite a bit of drama for two police departments and officers responded to a report of a little girl being inappropriately touched. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Mom’s Got a Warrant
A Portsmouth Police Officer accompanied an area school principal to an apartment on Thomas Avenue to discuss some issues regarding a student.
However, mom refused to respond due to having a warrant. Instead, the principal spoke with the student’s grandmother about the problems.
Panhandling Problem
A persistent panhandler was at it again near the Verizon Store just before 3 pm. Witnesses said he was hanging around the lot bumming money and cigarettes despite having been run off multiple times.
An officer advised him once again to leave the area.
Meanwhile at Speedway
Speedway employees contacted officers at 4:22 pm to report a man who refused to leave the store.
The man left before officers arrived.
Deer Put Down at Greenlawn
Just after 9 pm, police responded to a report of a deer stuck on a fence at Greenlawn Cemetery. An officer put the suffering animal down with one shot.
Police released the carcass to a bystander.
Child In Danger
A Robinson Avenue caller contacted police just before 11 pm and asked to speak with an officer to discuss an 11-year-old girl having been touched inappropriately.
Suspicious Activity
- A caller contacted police just after midnight to report a man messing with the US Bank Drive-Thru ATM while a woman yelled at him. Police checked it out but saw no signs of tampering.
- Police responded to Frank & Steins Lounge for a report of a woman pushing down a man she was arguing with. Officers said the woman denied the allegation.
- A 6th Street Caller reported a man walking around his back yard screaming at 3:30 am. Police advised the man to move along.
- A few minutes later, a Gallia Street caller reported an upset woman walking barefoot. She told police she was fine but had just had an argument with her husband. She asked police not to tell him where she was if he reported her missing.
Teen Drama at the Dollar General
Just after 1:30 am, police found themselves involved in a teen drama near the Dollar General on Harding.
An officer was dispatched to the scene regarding a missing teenage girl. Family members of the girl waved them down and said she’d run off into the woods.
An officer caught up with the girl behind the building. She told the officer a male friend had taken her phone and she was trying to get it back.
The boy with the phone called in to dispatch and said he would walk it back to the store. He returned the phone. It turned out the boy had been reported as a runaway earlier in the day through New Boston Police.
Both teens were returned to their respective parents and removed from the missing children’s list.
